Milk, it does the body good! One of my favorite things to do is meet other cattle (beef & dairy) producers. Today I toured my second dairy and this one was phenomenal. Located in Gustine, Texas, Volleman’s Wildcat Dairy started in 1993 with 50 Dairy cows. The operation today consists of 5,000 Dairy cows!

            Not only has the dairy grown in size over the last 25 years but they have also started bottling their own milk as well. They sell their milk in glass bottles! Besides learning about their operation, this had to be the coolest thing I heard all day. The instant I heard him say that I felt like they were bringing back some of the old ways of doing things. Did I mention they have a home delivery option as well? And that you can return the glass bottles and they refill them for you?!? Oh, and one other small mention, they are the official milk of the DALLAS COWBOYS!!! How awesome is that! This dairy is doing some amazing things.             If you have ever wondered about the treatment of Dairy Cows, let me tell you, these ladies have it made in the shade. They are in free stall barns with cross vents. This means the cows are under shade and have air flowing in and cooling them off. They are also able to walk, laydown, and eat in whichever stall they want. Did I mention they have sprinklers that cool them down when they eat? Talk about the life!

            Another fun fact about this dairy, they let people come out and tour, not only their dairy barn but also the bottling plant where the milk is processed and bottled. This would be one of the neatest field trips ever.             Today was a great day, one of those days that you wish everyone could experience. The best thing overall for me was the love and passion that David had for his cows and his industry. I wish all consumers could experience that firsthand. When you get to experience that love and passion, you know without a doubt, they will do whatever it takes to care for their animals. To love what you do, while making a positive impact not only on your family and the local community but across the state and surrounding states, well that’s a beautiful thing.
