Grilling 101

This last week, I was able to attend and demonstrate one of my favorite events! The Grilling 101!

Granted, some people reading this will say, I know how to cook a steak already, what is the big deal? For me, it is a special event. The majority of the time, I get to teach women how to cook steaks on the grill. It is such an amazing feeling, watching the participants and the excitement that they get when their steak comes out perfect. It is also an extreme plus when it tastes really good!

It isn’t just about grilling, it is about coming together as a group. Empowering women, or whoever may be in the group that day. It is the camaraderie between the participants that makes these events worth while.

Plus, it is always nice to throw in a few tips and tricks along the way. Take wire brushes for example, so many people use these to clean their grills but these can be very harmful. The bristles can break off and get stuck to the grill. They have the potential to get into your meat, and if you were to swallow one of those, it could be life threatening! Instead use some foil and an onion! They have the coolest onion holders at H-E-B, and they make cleaning your grill with an onion super easy.

I also like to challenge those well-done steak eaters. It is a free steak, be brave and try it medium-well! You might be amazed at how much flavor the steak has, and you won’t have to use that A1 sauce ever again!

At these events, I am always extra grateful for my time at The Texas Beef Council for giving me the skills to continue to administer this event! It definitely is one of the Texas CattleWomen’s favorite things to do!

Regardless of what it is, do what you love. Do what brings you joy. You never know how much joy you could bring to someone else along the way.

As always share some love, we could all use a little more love.

Find Your People

This weekend, I spent time with some of my favorite ladies. Do you have ladies or people in your corner, that are just as passionate about something as you are? The people who are like minded and have a lot of the same views on things that you do. The people who no matter against what odds keep showing up day in and day out to fight for what they truly believe in. If you don’t have people like that in your life, you need to get some.

I believe whole heartedly in getting to know people outside your circle. Learning about differences between cultures and truly educating yourself. There is so much out there to learn. The way you view the world is through the lens that you saw when you were raised. Every single person sees the world differently. It is important that we understand that, we listen to each other, and we actually try to get to know each other before assuming that we won’t like someone. Now, I know that people and personalities clash and sometimes there is not room for certain people in your life and that is okay.

That being said though, there is something powerful that happens when you get like minded people together. There is something magical in the room when everyone together is working towards the same cause. For me, it fills my cup, it renews my spirit, it likes a fire in my passion. You need your people. There is only so much one person can do alone.

I am super fortunate to have a couple groups of people that are my go to’s. That light a fire inside me. That motivate me to keep doing more, pushing harder to become the best version of myself. This weekend it was all about the Beef Industry. It was discussing events and ideas on how to educate more people about the Industry. It was a day filled with passionate women who inspire me regularly on all the amazing things that they are doing for the Beef Industry.

Is there something that you are passionate about? Find some people who are passionate about the same thing. Grow together. Learn together. Educate others so that they to may have the same passion. This past weekend was just a taste of what is coming in the next few weeks and I am super pumped to get the New Year started this way.

Find your people, I promise you, they are out there.

As always share some love, we could all use a little more love

Beef Cattle Short Course – 2022

This week is always one of my favorite weeks of the year! Beef Cattle Short Course took place in College Station, Texas. There is something special about being surrounded by like-minded people. The camaraderie between everyone. The opportunity to catch up with your friends who live in different parts of the state. Most importantly to be able to make an impact on the industry, to provide educational material and inform not only the producers but the consumers as well.

If you have never been to Beef Cattle Short Course, it is a roughly three day event at Texas A&M University. There are some sessions that take place Sunday, but the official event kicks off bright and early Monday morning. The schedule is packed for Monday and Tuesday with a variety of different sessions to attend. The best part is that you can pick and choose what you want to go too. Want to hear more on Nutrition? There are sessions for that. Interested in learning more on brush control? They have it covered.

Monday night, is a meal that you do not want to miss! Prime Rib Dinner! By far, one of the best meals I have ever had, the picture does not do it justice!

Wednesday morning, the Short Course moves from classroom style teaching, to hands on demonstrations. These topics range from Fencing demonstrations, to brush control, to cattle handling. My favorite to watch is the cattle handling demonstration. No matter how many times I have watched Dr. Gill do his demonstrations, I always learn something new. Never stop trying to learn. Keep learning so that you can start teaching!

While this year’s event is over, it is never too early to start thinking about next year. For more information on the event, be sure to check out – https://beefcattleshortcourse.com/. The full schedule from this year is listed along with some of the additional programs that are combined with this event.

Looking for events to attend and information right now? Check out the RanchTV Youtube Channel. Also, follow the Beef Cattle Extension Specialists on Facebook – Beef Cattle – Texas A&M AgriLife Extension for upcoming events.

My heart is full and my love for the industry has only increased. Today, I am extra thankful for the opportunities that I have been given. Our paths may take us a different direction than we originally attended, find the blessings in that, you will be surprised by the things that come your way.
